Carling Cup winner x 8 = YNWA
March 03, 2012It's been almost a week since that memorable night...
The moment at Wembley Stadium, Liverpool's first trip to the new stadium, was a joyous one. After a rather poor display against a second tier Cardiff (why was Henderson playing?), Liverpool managed to bring it to a penalty-shootout, where Stevie G's cousin, Anthony of all people, kicked his spot kick wide to gift the Merseyside club their first trophy in six years. Thank goodness for that, as Steven Gerrard's unlucky save and Charlie Adam's lousy kick did not prove costly.
While many people still call it the Mickey Mouse Cup (bloody ManU fans, just the few actually), it still highlights the significant improvement since King Kenny took the reins last January. Yes, some of his transfers are still skeptical (why is Henderson in a Reds shirt, worse player in the final), some are showing signs of improvement (Carroll and Downing).
With their eighth Carling Cup, it is now time for the Kop to start focusing on the biggest prize of all: Champions League football. Having not been in the tournament for 2 and a half seasons now, it's prime time for them to get back in the elite tournament, starting tonight against an Arsenal side gunning (see what I did there?) for the same prize. And there would be the FA Cup, with high hopes of the Reds achieving a double this season.
At this crucial part of the season, Liverpool must now flex their muscle and show that they mean business when they are playing. No more "on-the-bar" shots, no more off the target shots and no more Henderson, this is the time for them to reign supreme #YNWA
P.S.
Dear Dalglish, play Bellamy and Maxi more please :)
