So Close, Yet So Far

August 05, 2012

Goodness me what a final that was. Lee Chong Wei giving it his all, till the final segments. A much, much more determined and energized performance compared to what happened at Beijing 4 years ago. Sadly, be it a much improved play, Lin Dan still stood in the way of Malaysia's first Olympic gold.

The first set was a close fight, but Chong Wei managed to win straight points to win it. I do believe that this sort of mentality always benefited Chong Wei, as he seems to be the guy who's performance dips when under pressure.

That did not happen though in the 2nd set, when Lin Dan powered through 21-10. Ah well, might as well rest for the big finale.

Then came the 3rd set. My goodness was the whole Malaysia on their feet. With the score at 19-19, we were thinking "this could be the day", but alas, individual errors caused our dear Malaysian shuttler.

And the poor guy had to use Twitter to apologize to us. He had not done anything wrong. It was a matter of "May the best man win", and it was unfortunately the Mainland Chinese who proved to be the better one. But alas, he gave it his all and it's a matter of us moving on and hoping this represents a nice motivation to our future national representatives.

Or maybe he was under pressure (as seen in the largely one-sided second game) for the free ice-cream EVERYBODY's TALKING ABOUT, which brings me to (perhaps?) more depressing matters...

As we all know, Facebook and Twitter is banned in China, so why post jibes and disses about Lin Dan and China (don't drag them down too) there?

Bloody hell it's like you're talking to a wall (see what I did there?) What did China do to us anyway? Everyone's here to bang in the medals, so what's wrong when a country is trying their best to win one? Stop being sore losers for once.

And the most depressing lot... people being the mature adults that they are by cursing people for not complaining about the lack of free ice-cream... honest to God I have not come across anyone who complained about no Baskin Robbins :/

*Names covered for anonymous reasons

Damn if Chong Wei really did win it (and I too would have loved to see that), would you really believe that people would not want ice-cream and holidays. Bloody "SING WHEN YOU'RE WINNING" attitude.

But let us not bother some of these simpletons and appreciate the workmanship Datuk Lee Chong Wei has put in to get Malaysia into the medal list. Amazing stuff.

P.S. We still have one last shot at an Olympic gold though, as Azizulhasni Awang is competing in the Cycling sprint quarter finals today. Let's all get behind him shall we? :)
