Toy Story 3

July 17, 2010

Late post, I know :(

I doubt I was the only teenager waiting for Toy Story 3. After 15 years since the first movie (and 11 years since the second), the Toy Story series never fails to excite me, and after watching Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D back in April, it has gotten me hyped up for Toy Story 3 all over again. Click "Read More!" for the full review.

THE PROS:

Rarely have there been a movie sequel that was able to be just as good as the first film, and even rare for a third. Toy Story 3 one of them.

Pixar were able to utilize today's technology to upgrade the characters with dated graphics and polish them up to today's standards. Buzz's helmet now has a nice shine, Woody's clothes have a lot more detail. One of the main differences compared to the previous 2 movies were the lighting, which was splendidly pulled off in the movie, especially during the night scenes.

The story is very imaginative, and it's just as fun as 1 & 2. After 2 adventures and a few complications, Andy's toys have ended up in Sunnyside, a day care center where they met loads of new faces. What they didn't know was that the day care was like a toy prison and the toys there are the "guards", and so Woody, Buzz and the whole gang finds a way to get out. The introduction of new characters makes the movie feel new suddenly, such as the introduction of Lotso-Huggin' Bear and Barbie's Ken (funniest dude in the movie). The movie darker though, so parental company would be needed for the smaller kids.

Oh yeah, the ending was the most touching moment ever, it can even make the most macho of people shed a tear. It's that touching.

Most of the characters from the previous movies still retain their voice actors.
It was really nice to see Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz and hear "To Infinity... and Beyond" all over again :)

THE CONS:

There are cons for this movie? Just a little. The 3D doesn't seem to work. It doesn't stand out as much during some parts of the movie, so I would recommend watching it without the 3D.

SUMMARY:

Even after 15 years, Toy Story is still so enjoyable to watch, and it's sad to see it at its conclusion. It's so good that even those older people who have watched Toy Story 1 & 2 when they were younger would enjoy this flick.

I'll nominate this movie as the best movie of 2010, as there have been no other movie so far this year that has caught my eyes. Everything in this movie is done splendidly, and I can say that the Toy story series can have a place in the books as one of the best trilogies ever!
