Movie Sequels

June 14, 2014

Back in early 2010 I made this post on the similar movie posters released at the time, well as a 15 year old then I had too much time on my hand to notice this useless detail.

This weekend sees two sequels arrive at the American box office, and not surprisingly, both movies had the most creative sequel names of all... How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 22 Jump Street.

While 22 Jump Street's name is justified (the original 21 Jump Street office closed and moved across the street), sometimes Hollywood just doesn't seem bothered with providing better names for sequels. We may have seen in recent times sequels given a subtitle instead (Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past come to mind), but there's one sequel name that has not been revisited since the 80's:

You guessed it... PLURALS!?

Not since James Cameron's Aliens have we seen a movie sequel title that literally just added a 's' to its name, and it was an effective one too, showing that there are more than one Xenomorph in this flick. So, without further ado, may I present to you  some movie sequel which could have got the plural form treatment (or those which I can easily edit on the poster):

Batmen
Wouldn't work, there's a bunch of penguins but only one Bat.

Before Sunrises
To be fair, calling the sequels Before Sunset and Before Midnight was an awesome idea, they dodged a bullet here.

Fantastic Fours
A horrible film, and an even worse sequel. The End.

Madagascars: Escape 2 Africa
To begin with, it was stupid to set a movie in Africa and still have the name based on the first movie's island, should've just gone for Africa or something. And I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, they needed the two for the silly subtitle.

Rush Hours
I actually like this idea, but what will Rush Hour 3 be called then?

Terminators: Judgement Day
And finally, another James Cameron-directed sequel masterpiece, the 's' in Terminators seems appropriate, as they introduced a new robot in the form of the liquid-bending T-1000. Why didn't he went with Terminators since he did the same with Aliens?
